- 1 c. butter or margarine
- 1 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling
- 1 tsp. almond extract
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- powdered sugar to dust top (optional)
Directions

1In large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add the eggs.

2Beat until light and fluffy.

3Add the almond extract.

4Stir in the flour and baking powder.

5Mix until smooth. Butter a 13 x 9-inch cake pan.

6Spoon the pie filling into the cake, in 16 spots, spacing 4 spoonfuls evenly in each direction. Bake at 350° for 45 to 50 minutes or until golden brown and cake tests done.

7Filling will sink into the cake while baking.

8To serve, cut into 16 pieces.

9Place bottom side up on serving plate. Dust with powdered sugar, if used.

10Spoon lightly sweetened whipped cream over each serving, if desired.
