- 3 eggs
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 3 Tbsp. shortening or oil
- 6 1/2 c. self-rising flour
- 1 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Blend eggs until thick and lemon color.

2Gradually beat in sugar and nutmeg.

3Blend in shortening and flour, mixing in with milk.

4Use enough flour to make a soft dough.

5Turn out on lightly floured board; mix gently for 30 seconds, until 1/2-inch thick. Cut with floured doughnut cutter.

6Fry in deep fat at 400° for 1 1/2 minutes, or until brown on each side.

7Drain well.

8While warm, sprinkle with confectioners sugar.

9Makes 3 dozen.
