  • 1 lb. raisins
  • 2 c. water
  • 1/2 c. melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 1/2 tsp. each: nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 c. sifted flour
  • dash of salt
  • 1 c. cool water
  • 1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 1 tsp. hot water

Directions

    Stew raisins in 2 cups water for 15 minutes; let cool.

    Cream together melted butter, egg, oil, spices, sugar, flour, salt and cool water.

    Add cooled raisins and baking soda mixture.

    Bake in greased 13 x 9-inch pan for approximately 1 hour at 350°.
