- 2 cups raisins
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup Crisco shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 34 teaspoon cinnamon
- 12 teaspoon allspice
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Directions

1Preheat oven to 375F.

2Cover raisins with water.

3Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes.

4Do not drain.

5Cool.

6Cream shortening and sugar.

7Add eggs and beat well; stir in vanilla.

8Add boiled raisins AND THEIR WATER, plus 1/4 cup additional water.

9Combine dry ingredients.

10Add to creamed mixture, a little at a time, stirring after each addition.

11Stir in the nuts.

12Drop onto a greased cookie sheet.

13Bake at 375 for 10-12 minutes.
