- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp. cocoa
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. vinegar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 (1 oz.) bottles red food coloring
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 1/2 c. cake flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
Directions

1Cream the sugar, Crisco and eggs.

2Combine cocoa, vanilla, vinegar, salt and food coloring. Add to creamed mixture.

3Add buttermilk, cake flour and soda.

4Mix well. Bake in two 9-inch pans at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool, then split layer with thread to make 4 layers.
