- 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
- 1 stick margarine
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
Directions

1In a bowl, mix together 2 cups of the flour and the brown sugar, then cut in butter.

2Measure out 3/4 cup of the mixture and set aside to use later as the topping. Stir the remaining cup of flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and nutmeg into the flour, brown sugar, butter mixture remaining in the bowl.

3Stir in buttermilk and eggs and mix just until blended.

4Spoon into lightly buttered muffin tins; fill 3/4 full. Sprinkle equal amounts of reserved topping over each muffin. Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes.

5Yields 15 muffins.
