Ingredients

  • 8 oz. self-rising flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 oz. Crisco or margarine
  • 1 oz. sugar
  • milk (to make soft dough)
  • 2 Tbsp. sultana raisins
  • 1 egg, beaten (put aside 1 Tbsp.)

Directions

    Mix flour and salt in a bowl.

    Rub in Crisco or margarine. Mix in fruit and sugar.

    Stir in beaten egg and milk. Make into soft dough.

    Roll out to thickness of 1/2-inch and cut in rounds with a 2 1/2-inch scone cutter. Place on greased baking sheet. Brush over tops with tablespoon of beaten egg. Bake in a 425° to 450° oven for about 10 minutes, gas oven 7 to 8 minutes.
