  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 c. onion, finely chopped
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. dark Karo syrup
  • 2 Tbsp. white vinegar
  • 2 c. beef stock or 2 beef bouillon cubes
  • 1 bay leaf
  • salt and pepper to taste

    Brown roast in butter and oil. Remove roast and brown onions. Remove pan from heat and add flour, stirring until blended.
