- 1 pkg. yeast, dissolved in 1/2 c. water and 1 tsp. sugar
- 1 c. water
- 1 c. milk
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2 c. milk
- salt
- 1 Tbsp. molasses
- 2 c. rye flour
- 8 c. white flour
Directions

1In mixing bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in 1/2 cup water. Scald 1 cup water, milk, sugar and shortening.

2Mix remaining ingredients and let rise 1 hour or until double in bulk.

3Punch down and let rise again.

4Knead each loaf before putting in pans. Let rise 1 hour.

5Bake at 400° for 15 minutes and reduce oven to 350° and bake additional 45 minutes.
