- 3 c. scalded milk
- 1 Tbsp. shortening
- 3/4 c. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. molasses
- 1 1/2 tsp. anise seed
- 1 pkg. yeast, dissolved in 1/4 c. lukewarm water
- 5 c. flour
- 2 c. rye flour
Directions

1Pour shortening, brown sugar, salt and molasses over milk and add anise seed; let cool.

2Mix yeast and water and add to above. Make a well in flour and pour cooled mixture into flour and gradually mix.

3Let stand 15 minutes with a wet cloth on top. Make 3 loaves in greased pans.

4Let rise in pans 1 hour.

5Bake at 400° for 10 minutes, then at 350° for 50 minutes.
