- 4 to 5 lb. pot roast or stew meat
- 3/4 c. water
- 3/4 c. vinegar
- salt to taste
- 1 1/2 tsp. ground pepper
- 3 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 1/8 tsp. ground cloves and allspice
- 1 tsp. ground ginger
- 3/4 c. chopped onion
- 1 bay leaf
Directions

1Brown meat in heavy pot; drain off fat and add 3/4 cup water. Cover and simmer 1 hour.

2Remove meat and cut in 1/2-inch slices and return to pot.

3In another pan, boil 3/4 cup water and remaining ingredients.

4Use seasonings to taste.

5Pour over meat; cover and simmer until fork-tender (about 1 1/2 hours).

6Add water if necessary.

7Thicken with flour and water mixture off heat. Simmer until flour is cooked, stirring often.

8Serve over rice.
