- 1/2 cup (125 ml) butter
- 1 cup (225 ml) chopped onion
- 4 cups (950 ml) fresh bread in bite size pieces
- 1 tsp (5 ml). salt
- 1 tsp (5 ml). basil
- 1/2 tsp (2 ml). pepper
- 2 14 oz (392 grm). cans diced or sliced tomatoes
- 4 tsp (20 ml). brown sugar
Directions

1Preheat oven to 375 degrees (200 C.).

2In medium saucepan cook onion in butter till tender.

3Stir in salt, basil, pepper and bread pieces.

4Mix in tomatoes and sugar.

5Mix well, and put in a lightly greased 1-1/2 quarts (1425 ml) casserole.

6Bake 30 minutes or till hot and bubbly.
