- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- pinch of salt
- 1 tsp. bicarbonate of soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- milk
Directions

1Sift the first 4 ingredients into a bowl.

2Rub in butter; mix in enough milk to make a soft but not sticky dough.

3Turn the dough onto a floured surface; knead it lightly.

4Roll the dough out to a thickness of about 3/4-inch; cut as many scones as possible, using a 2 1/2-inch round cutter.

5Gather up the scraps; re-roll them to cut out more scones.

6Bake at 425° on a cookie sheet for 10 minutes, or until well risen and golden brown.

7Cool on a wire tray.
