- 6 c. all-purpose flour
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1/3 c. baking powder
- 1/2 lb. plus 2 Tbsp. butter
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 1 c. currants
- 1 egg
Directions

1Mix flour, sugar and baking powder.

2Cut in all the butter to get a coarse meal consistency.

3Combine buttermilk and currants; add this to the flour mixture.

4Turn out on floured board and pat until it holds together, handling as little as possible.

5Divide into 6 pieces.

6Shape into circles and cut each circle into either 4 to 6 wedges.

7Put an egg in a cup and beat it around with a brush until scrambled.

8Brush this mixture on top of the scones. Bake 30 minutes at 325°.

9Makes 24 to 36.

10Serve with lemon curd, fresh blueberries and whipped cream.
