  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1 None carrot, peeled and diced
  • 1 None large onion, peeled and diced
  • 4 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 2/3 cups beef stock
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour, mixed with 4 tbsp water
  • 2 1/4 lb potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 1/3 cup 2% or whole milk
  • 5 1/2 tbsp butter
  • None None grated nutmeg, to taste
  • 3 sprigs fresh parsley, finely chopped

    Preheat oven to 400°F. Heat oil in a large frying pan, brown ground meat for 6 mins. Add carrot, onion and tomato paste. Cook for 2-3 mins. Add ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and stock. Bring to a boil then simmer for 12 mins, stirring occasionally. Add flour mixture and simmer for 3 mins. Season then transfer to a baking dish.

    Meanwhile, cook potatoes in boiling water for 20 mins. Drain. Heat milk and butter in a small saucepan then add to potatoes and mash. Season and add nutmeg then spread over ground beef mixture. Bake for 40 mins. Sprinkle with parsley and serve.
