  • 1 c. dark baking molasses
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 c. hot water
  • 4 c. flour
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 2 c. dark brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt

Directions

    Mix flour, shortening, brown sugar and salt.

    Set aside 1 cup for crumbs.

    Mix liquid ingredients and add to flour mixture. Pour into greased 9 x 13-inch pan.

    Sprinkle 1 cup crumbs on top. Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes.
