- 1 unbaked 9-inch pastry shell
- 1/2 c. dark molasses
- 1/2 c. boiling water
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 2 c. sifted flour
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 c. vegetable shortening
Directions

1Crimp edges of pastry shell.

2Mix together molasses, boiling water and baking soda.

3Pour in well-beaten egg; set aside.

4Mix flour with sugar, salt and cinnamon; chop in shortening to form crumbs.

5Pour molasses mixture into pastry shell.

6Top with crumbs.

7Bake 1 to 1 1/4 hours at 350°.

8Cool.
