- 1/2 lb. butter, softened
- 1/2 c. light brown sugar
- 1 tsp. almond extract
- 2 c. sifted unbleached flour
- 1/4 tsp. each: salt and baking powder
Directions

1Cream together the butter, brown sugar and almond extract. Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder; blend into butter mixture.

2Place on cookie sheet; pat into a rectangle 1/4-inch thick, using as little flour as possible.

3Make cut marks to prick each square with tines of fork.

4Bake in a 350° oven for 15 to 20 minutes, until light and golden.

5Do not overcook.

6Remove squares; cool and store in tin with tight lid.

7Makes 4 dozen.
