  • 1 lb. butter
  • 5 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Mix and spread in one 8 x 16-inch square pan or two 8-inch square pans. Score top lightly with a fork.

    Bake at 300° for 15 minutes.

    Reduce heat to 250° for 1 hour or until brown. Remove and cut into squares.

    Makes 60 to 75 cookies.
