- Oil, for frying
- 2 pounds fresh or frozen shrimp, thawed and peeled and deveined
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- Salt
- Flour, for dredging and thickening
- 1 large onion, chopped
- Water
- 4 cups cooked white rice
Directions

1Heat oil in skillet.

2Lightly season shrimp with pepper, garlic powder, and salt and then dredge in the flour, shaking off any excess.

3Lightly fry until shrimp turn pink and curl, about 2 minutes per side.

4Remove from skillet and drain.

5Saute onions in the same pan until they begin to soften.

6Add a couple tablespoons of flour and whisk well to make a roux.

7Season with a little more salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

8Whisk in water, 1/4 cup at a time until desired consistency is reached.

9Add shrimp and simmer in gravy for 10 minutes.

10Serve over white rice.
