Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 4 c. flour (1 c. more may be needed)
  • 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt

Directions

    Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and beat well. Stir in molasses. Add dry ingredients; mix thoroughly. Chill dough. Roll on floured cloth, 1/4-inch thickness. Sprinkle with sugar. Roll to make sugar thick. Cut with floured cutter.

    Bake on lightly greased sheet at 350° for 10 minutes.

    A raisin may be placed in center of cookie if desired.
