- 2 1/4 cup flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp softened butter
- 2 egg yolks
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup applesauce
- 1 oil for frying
- 3 1/2 cup powered sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp light corn syrup
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup hot water
Directions

1In large bowl, sift together flour, salt, nutmeg and baking powder

2Cream butter and sugar in separate large bowl.

3Add egg yolks and mix well.

4Alternately, mix flour mixture with sour cream until well blended.

5Add applesauce and mix well.

6Cover with plastic wrap and chill one hour.

7On floured surface, roll dough out to about 1/2 inch thick.

8Cut out donuts, saving the holes.

9Makes about 12 donuts.

10Heat oil over medium heat.

11One by one fry donuts in oil until light golden brown in color.

12This does not take long so make sure to watch closely.

13Dry donuts on paper bag to soak up grease.

14For glaze, combine powdered sugar, vanilla extract, salt, light corn syrup and hot water.

15Whisk until smooth and emmerse each donut and hole and set on wire rack to set.

16About 20 minutes.
