- 1/2 lb. split peas
- 4 c. water
- 1 meaty ham bone
- 1/3 c. chopped onion
- 1/3 c. chopped celery
- 1/3 c. chopped carrot
- 1 small bay leaf
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 small clove garlic
Directions

1Wash and drain split peas.

2Combine all ingredients in a kettle with tight fitting lid.

3Bring to boil.

4Reduce heat and simmer, covered, 2 hours.

5Stir occasionally.

6Remove bone; cool slightly.

7Cut ham off bone and dice.

8Add to soup and heat thoroughly.

9Remove bay leaf before serving.
