- 2/3 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 2 c. all-purpose flour (unsifted)
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- preserves (apricot, prune, nut, etc.)
- 3/4 c. margarine or butter, softened
- 1 egg
Directions

1In a large bowl, beat sugar and margarine until light and fluffy.

2Add vanilla and egg; beat well.

3Next, stir in flour and baking powder.

4Blend well.

5On lightly floured surface, divide dough into 4 equal parts.

6Shape each into a roll, 12 x 3/4-inches.

7Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

8Using handle of wooden spoon or finger, make a depression lengthwise down center of each roll, about 1/2-inch wide and 1/4-inch deep.

9Fill each depression with preserves.

10Bake at 350° for 15 to 20 minutes or until light golden brown.

11Cool slightly and cut diagonally into bars.
