  • 1 c. squash, cooked, drained and finely mashed
  • 1/2 c. self-rising flour
  • 1/2 c. self-rising corn meal
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 medium onion, grated
  • 1 egg
  • water (drained from squash)

Directions

    Combine all ingredients, then add enough drained water from squash for consistency to drop with a teaspoon into deep fat to form puffs about the size of hushpuppies.

    Yields 20 to 25 puffs.
