  • 1 qt. canned string beans, drained
  • 6 slices lean bacon
  • 1/3 c. onion, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 c. canned tomatoes
  • 1/3 c. chopped green pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1 c. American cheese, shredded
  • 1 c. bread crumbs (not spicy)

Directions

    Drain beans; save 1/4 cup of liquid.

    Cut bacon into small pieces; fry until almost crisp.

    Add beans and reserved liquid to bacon; cook for 10 minutes.

    Cook onion and green pepper in butter until tender.

    Add tomatoes; cook until sauce is thick.

    Season. Combine mixtures and pour into greased baking dish.

    Sprinkle with cheese and crumbs.

    Bake at 375° until cheese is melted and crumbs are brown.
