Ingredients
- 1 large cabbage
- 3/4 lb. ground beef
- 1/2 c. rice (uncooked)
- 1 garlic clove, chopped
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1 large onion, chopped fine
- 1/8 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. basil
- 1 can tomatoes
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 lemon, sliced
Directions

1Separate cabbage leaves and blanch in boiling water until limp.

2Remove and drain.

3Cut into large leaves, removing tough vein.

4Mix together ground beef, rice, salt, pepper, onion, cinnamon and basil.

5For each roll, use an amount about the size of a finger.

6Squeeze together and place on leaf.

7Fold in tips of leaf and roll.

8Put in heavy pot and arrange in layers.

9Add tomatoes, water to cover, 1 chopped clove garlic and sliced lemon, arranging on top of rolls.

10Put a plate on top of cabbage rolls to anchor them.

11Cook slowly for about 1 hour.
