  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. soda (baking)
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg

Directions

    Cream shortening (butter or margarine or Crisco) and sugar. Add egg.

    Add dry ingredients alternately with milk.

    Mix well. Let set covered in refrigerator until it feels thick enough to handle for rolled cookies.

    Roll out and cut with large, round cutter.

    Bake at 375° until lightly browned (about 10 minutes).
