- 2 gal. cucumbers
- 1 pt. salt
- 2 Tbsp. powdered alum
- 1/2 gal. vinegar
- 1/2 gal. sugar
- pickling spice
Directions

1Dissolve salt in 1 gallon boiling water and pour over cukes. Let stand 5 to 7 days.

2Rinse.

3Dissolve 2 tablespoons alum in 1 gallon boiling water.

4Let stand 24 hours.

5Rinse and split cukes (no matter how small); repeat 2 tablespoons alum in 1 gallon boiling water and let stand 24 hours.

6Rinse thoroughly.

7Prepare equal parts sugar and vinegar; bring to a boil.

8Pour over cukes. Let stand 24 hours.

9Pour off and add equal parts of sugar to vinegar solution.

10Bring to a boil and pour over cukes that have been packed in jars.

11Seal.
