- 11 c. boiling water
- 1 c. salt
- 1 gal. cucumbers, cut
- 2 Tbsp. alum
- vinegar
- 2 Tbsp. mixed pickling spice
- 9 c. sugar
Directions

1Add salt to boiling water and let cool.

2Pour over cucumbers and leave 2 weeks.

3Wash off brine.

4Use enough cold water to cover cucumbers.

5Add alum and leave 24 hours.

6Drain and discard alum water.

7Pour enough cold vinegar over cucumbers to cover and add mixed pickling spice.

8Leave 24 hours.

9Drain and discard.

10Add 3 cups sugar after discarding vinegar.

11After 24 hours, add 3 more cups sugar.

12Add 3 more cups sugar after another 24 hours.

13Syrup will rise to cover pickles as sugar dissolves.

14Store in glass jars.

15Jars do not have to be sealed.
