- 3 c. sifted flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. butter
- 3/4 c. currants
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1/4 c. light cream (to brush on top)
Directions

1In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, soda and salt.

2With pastry blender, cut butter into the flour mixture. Add currants.

3Gradually add the buttermilk until the dough clings together.

4Turn dough onto lightly floured board.

5Pat or roll into a round shape, 1/2-inch high.

6Cut with 2-inch biscuit cutter.

7Place on greased or ungreased cookie sheet.

8Brush tops with cream.

9Bake for 15 minutes in a 450° oven.

10Serve warm. Makes 18.
