- 3 (1 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate
- 2/3 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1 beaten egg
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 2/3 c. milk
- 2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
Directions

1Sift together flour, baking soda and salt.

2Combine chocolate, sugar, milk and beaten egg in saucepan.

3Cook and stir over low heat until chocolate melts and mixture thickens; cool.

4Stir shortening to soften.

5Gradually add sugar.

6Mix until light and fluffy.

7Add vanilla.

8Add the eggs one at a time.

9Beat well after each.

10Alternately add flour mixture and 2/3 cup milk, beginning and ending with flour.

11Beat after each addition.

12Blend in chocolate mixture.

13Bake in 2 paper lined or greased 9-inch layer pans at 350° for 25 minutes (more or less).

14Remove from oven when cake separates from side of pan.
