  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. butter or margarine, melted
  • 3/4 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 1 c. quick cooking rolled oats
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 6 Tbsp. butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 sq. (1 oz.) unsweetened chocolate, melted or 1 envelope no-melt unsweetened chocolate
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. chopped walnuts

    For bottom layer:

    Sift together the 1/2 cup flour, the soda and the first 1/4 teaspoon salt; mix with rolled oats and the brown sugar.

    Stir in 6 tablespoons melted butter or margarine. Pat mixture in 11 x 7 x 1 1/2-inch baking pan; bake in moderate oven (350°) for 10 minutes.
