   Grease and flour a 9 x 13-inch pan.

   Prepare cake mix according to instructions on box.

   Pour half of the batter into the pan.

   Bake at 350° for 15 minutes.

   Over low heat, melt caramels, butter and milk.

   Cool slightly.

   Remove cake from oven and pour caramel mixture over half-baked cake.

   Sprinkle chocolate chips and pecans over caramel mixture. Pour rest of the batter on top.

   Return to oven and bake an additional 20 to 30 minutes.
