Vanilla Taffy

Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. Karo syrup (white)
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp. margarine

Directions

    Combine sugar, syrup, water and cream of tartar.

    Bring to a boil, over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves.

    Continue cooking, without stirring, to hard ball stage.

    Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and margarine.

    Pour into a greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch square pan.

    Let stand until cool enough to handle.

    Pull candy with fingers until it has a satin-like finish and milky-white color.

    Pull into long strips 3/4-inch wide.

    Cut into 1-inch pieces with scissors.

    Wrap in wax paper.
