- 3/4 lb. butter (3 sticks)
- 6 eggs
- 3 1/2 c. cake flour
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 1/2 c. white sugar
- 1 c. sweet milk
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. lemon (optional)
Directions

1Have all ingredients at room temperature.

2Cream butter and sugar until very smooth and light.

3Add unbeaten eggs one at a time.

4Sift flour before measuring, then sift all dry ingredients together several times.

5Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk, mixing well.

6Last, add desired flavoring.

7This cake may be made either by hand beating or with an electric beater.

8Pour into a well-greased and floured tube cake pan.

9Bake at 300° to 325° for 1 hour.
