- 1 pkg. dates
- 1 c. hot water
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1 3/4 c. flour
- 1/2 c. nuts
- 1/2 pkg. chocolate chips
- whipped cream
Directions

1Cut package of dates in half.

2Pour hot water and soda over them.

3Cool.

4Cream sugar and shortening.

5Add to date mixture. Add salt, eggs, vanilla, cocoa and flour.

6Pour into a 9 x 13-inch pan.

7Sprinkle nuts and chocolate chips on top.

8Bake at 350° for 25 minutes.

9Serve with whipped cream.
