Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 c. plus 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 3/4 c. butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 c. cold water

Directions

    Combine first five ingredients in a large bowl.

    Add vanilla, vinegar and butter.

    Beat well.

    Slowly stir in water and beat well.

    Pour batter into an ungreased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

    Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes until done.

    Frost with Caramel Frosting.
