Ingredients
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 1 beaten egg
- 1/2 c. melted shortening
- 2 c. lukewarm water
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 8 c. flour (more or less)
Directions

1Dissolve the yeast in the 1/2 cup water.

2Let stand 10 minutes.

3Beat in remaining ingredients, except flour.

4Add flour gradually to desired consistency.

5Let rest 10 minutes.

6Knead on floured board for 10 minutes.

7Put in greased bowl; cover and let rise until double.

8Punch down and knead 2 more minutes.

9Shape into 3 or 4 loaves and let rise.

10Bake at 375° for 25 minutes. Brush with butter.
