Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp. salt
- 5 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 c. milk
- 4 Tbsp. lard or oil
- 2 Tbsp. yeast
- 1/2 c. lukewarm water
- 3 c. cold water
- 3 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
- 8 or 9 c. white flour
Directions

1Measure the salt and sugar in bowl.

2Soak the yeast in 1/2 cup lukewarm water.

3Heat the milk to scald.

4Add the lard to the milk.
-
5When melted, add to salt and sugar.

6Stir in the cold water, then add the whole wheat flour.

7Let stand 15 minutes or so, then add the yeast mixture and the white flour, until pretty stiff.

8Knead well.

9Let rise until double.
-
10Let rise again, then roll out and put in pans.

11Let rise again.
-
12Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
