Ingredients

  • 2 c. water
  • 1/4 c. margarine or oil
  • 1/4 c. molasses or honey
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 4 to 4 1/2 c. whole wheat flour

Directions

    In small saucepan, heat first 3 ingredients until very warm (120° to 130°).

    In large bowl, blend warm liquid, flour; salt and yeast at low speed until moistened.

    Beat 3 minutes at medium speed.

    By hand stir in whole wheat flour to form a stiff dough. Knead on floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Place dough in greased bowl; let rise in warm place until light and double in size; 45 to 60 minutes.

    Generously grease 2 loaf pans. Punch down dough, divide and shape into 2 loaves.

    Cover; let rise again.

    Bake at 350° for 35 to 45 minutes or until deep golden brown and loaves sound hollow when lightly tapped.

    Immediately remove from pans; cool.
