  • 2 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup sherry
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Directions

    Combine sugar, water, and butter in a saucepan, stirring well. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and cook, stirring constantly, 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in remaining ingredients, mixing well. Serve warm over pudding.

    Note: This old-fashioned dessert sauce is especially good with gingerbread.
