- 1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 Tbsp. flour
- 1/4 c. dark corn syrup
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 c. water
- 1 c. unsifted flour
- 1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. butter or regular margarine
- 1 unbaked (9-inch) pie shell
Directions

1Combine 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 tablespoon flour, corn syrup, vanilla and egg in 2-quart saucepan.

2Slowly stir in water.

3Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture comes to a boil.

4Let cool.

5Combine 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt and butter.

6Mix until crumbly.

7Pour cooled mixture into pie shell; top with crumbs.

8Bake in 350° oven 40 minutes or until golden brown.
