- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 2 1/2 c. plain flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Dissolve the yeast in warm water.

2Mix the dry ingredients. Cut in shortening as for biscuit dough.

3Add buttermilk and yeast mixture; blend thoroughly.

4Turn the dough out onto a floured cloth and knead as for regular biscuits.

5Roll out and cut biscuits. Place biscuits in a greased pan.

6Let dough rise for a few minutes before baking.

7Bake for 12 to 15 minutes at 400° or until brown.
