  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 2 Tbsp. tepid water
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 5 c. plain flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. buttermilk

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in tepid water with 1 teaspoon sugar.

    Combine flour, 4 tablespoons sugar, baking powder, soda and salt.

    Cut in butter.

    Add buttermilk,

    then yeast mixture to flour.

    Mix thoroughly and knead a few minutes on a floured board.

    Cut into biscuits.

    Place on ungreased cookie sheet and cover while oven heats to 400°.

    Bake 10 to 12 minutes.
