Ingredients

  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening (don't use oil)
  • 2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 Tbsp. lukewarm water (110~)

Directions

    Sift dry ingredients.

    Cut shortening in.

    Add buttermilk. Dissolve yeast in water; add to mixture.

    (Add extra flour, if needed.)

    Stir.

    Roll dough; cut into shapes.

    Let rise 10 minutes before baking.

    Bake at 450° until lightly browned, about 10 minutes.

    Can be put in plastic bags and frozen.
