- 1 envelope dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 5 cups flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 5 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 5 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 3/4 cup melted butter
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in water in small bowl.

2Set aside.

3Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt and sugar into large bowl.

4Mix in shortening until mixture is crumbly.

5Stir in buttermilk to yeast mixture, then add to flour mixture.

6Turn out onto floured surface.

7Roll about 1/4- 1/2 inch thick.

8Place on greased baking dish.

9Let rise for 1 1/2 hours. Bake in 400 degree oven about 15 minutes.

10Makes about 15 biscuits.

11Some of the dough can be refrigerated and baked another time if you wish.
