- 2 c. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 c. butter
- 2 c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 c. milk
- 2 c. water
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 7 apples
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. shortening
Directions

1Make syrup of sugar, water, cinnamon and nutmeg.

2Add butter. Pare and core apples (I prefer to also cut them up).

3Sift flour, salt and baking powder.

4Cut in shortening.

5Roll 1/8-inch thick. Cut in circles large enough to hold a small apple.

6Place apple on circle.

7Fill cavity with mixture of sugar and cinnamon.

8Dot with butter.

9Sprinkle top with nutmeg.

10Bring dough up over apples, pressing edges together.

11Place dumplings in pan with joined edges underneath in a greased baking pan.

12Allow space between each.

13Pour syrup over them.

14Bake at 375° until tender, about 35 minutes.
