Applesauce Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 box seedless raisins
  • 1 c. black walnuts, chopped fine
  • 2 c. sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 3/4 c. butter
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 c. applesauce, chunky or smooth

    Cover raisins with water and simmer until soft.

    Drain and cool.

    Coat chopped nuts with flour and set aside.

    Cream butter and sugar.

    Heat sauce until very warm and add baking soda.

    Add this mixture to creamed sugar and butter.

    Add nuts and raisins. Pour into greased and floured tube pan and bake at 350° for 50 to 60 minutes.

    Remove from oven and let set 10 minutes covered with a tea towel, then turn out onto a plate covered with powdered sugar.
