- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1/4 c. lukewarm water
- 1 c. milk
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 3 1/4 c. sifted flour
Directions

1Soften the yeast in warm water.

2Add scalded milk to sugar, salt and shortening.

3Cool to lukewarm.

4Add 2 cups of flour.

5Beat well with a spoon or mix 1 minute on medium-low speed of mixer. Add softened yeast and egg.

6Beat well again.

7Add remaining flour to make a thick batter.

8Beat until smooth.

9Cover and let rise in a warm place (80° to 85°) until doubled.

10Stir down and smooth into the two greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pans.

11Cover and let rise until almost doubled (about 50 minutes).

12Bake 25 to 35 minutes at 375°.
